Initially, in order to avoid confusion, please remember that Backworks is "NOT A SPA". We offer therapeutically designed treatments. Don't expect a spa type environment, we are more like a chiropractic styled office.

At Backworks we believe everyone should be treated as the “Most Important Individual” in our office. We truly strive to make your visit a pleasurable experience; and hope that you can leave our office feeling better than when you first entered. We are committed to ensuring that every time you visit Backworks, that you have a positive and caring experience. If you've never visited Backworks or have yet to receive a professional treatment session, we thought it would be helpful for you to know what to expect on your first visit.

Whether you come for a massage, to see the chiropractor or for an acupuncture appointment, the format is basically the same.

Meet and Greet

Once you arrive at Backworks, our Front Desk will greet you and ask you to fill out a Patient Intake Form. The Patient Intake Form is used for massage, acupuncture and chiropractic patients; where you can list general information, record any medical history, and list any past/present injuries and other physical conditions we should be made aware of prior to your treatment.  Your therapist will greet you and inquire about the reason(s) you are coming to Backworks, your current physical condition and any specific areas in which you are experiencing pain or would like addressed during your treatment.

The Treatment Room

Your therapist will then take you to a peaceful, clean treatment room where a comfortable massage table dressed with a warming blanket and clean sheets awaits.  A small area for your personal belongings and a chair are also provided for your use. Your therapist will leave the room and wait outside while you disrobe to your level of comfort. Some clients prefer to completely disrobe, while some will remain partially clothed. Once disrobed, for a massage you will lie on the massage table face down, under the top sheet. If you are having Acupuncture, then lie face-up; under the sheet.

Your therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room. You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session and an additional blanket is available at your request. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

You can expect a tranquil and comfortable environment during your massage. The massage table is padded and a heating blanket is placed beneath the sheet, which you can have adjusted to your preference. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise, and the room should be quiet, with no outside distractions.

I will explain all First Visit Procedures for: 1) Massage; 2) Chiropractic & 3) Acupuncture.

 Massage:

When you call our office, please let us know if you are having any pain or soreness, or if you simply wish to relax. You should state if you have a preference for either a male or female therapist.

When you arrive for your treatment, you will be taken to the massage room. All the massage rooms are always cleaned, with fresh sheets and linen for each patient. When the therapist leaves the room, you can take off your clothes, and then lie face down on the massage table—under the sheet. During a massage, some people like to take all their clothes off; most people remain in the underwear, and—if you like—we have a Hospital Johnny that you can wear.  (Please remember that whatever you decide for yourself, that all patients are always properly draped and covered to protect their privacy).

Prior to entering the room, your massage therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready (many rooms also have a bell for you to use). For your protection, you will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session and, if you are cold, an additional blanket is available at your request. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

You can expect a tranquil, comfortable and clean environment during your massage. The massage table is padded and (when it is cold) a heating blanket is placed beneath the sheet, which you can have adjusted to your preference. There will be relaxing music playing, unless you request otherwise, and the room should be quiet, with no outside distractions.

Please remember…

…that during your massage session the session if, at any time during the session, a technique or stroke they are using is uncomfortable, or has too much pressure for you, then please let the therapist know. Depending on your specific needs or requests, your massage therapist will either perform a customized treatment (for pain, soreness, general relaxation and stress reduction) or focus on the specific parts of your body that you have requested. Backworks uses only the highest quality hypo-allergenic massage creams and lotions during your treatment, and makes sure that you are perfectly clean when you leave.

It’s finished…

Once your massage session is completed, your therapist will make sure that you are all clean and fresh; and clean you after the massage. The therapist will then leave the room so you may re-dress. Your therapist will wait outside the room for you, and then take you back to the Front Desk. Our massage therapy sessions are one hour in length. This time includes a 2.5 minute pre-interview, 55 minutes of hands-on time and 2.5 minutes at the end for you to re-dress.
Acupuncture:

An Acupuncturist is like a piano tuner--it's all about balance and alignment; however an acupuncturist wants to balance and align your body's natural energy so that it can flow unimpeded, uninterrupted and continuously throughout your body.

Acupuncturist use very small, sterilized needles (each individually wrapped) and place them on the outer layer of your skin (the dermis). There is no blood, and no chance of infection or injury to the person. It is a safe, conservative and harmless form of treatment; that has unlimited potential and has been helping people for centuries.

Acupuncture combines the traditions of its 5000 year-old history with more modern understanding of health and disease to provide safe, effective treatment for many health related problems including: pain relief, chronic and acute conditions, back pain, nerve pain, immune system boosting & illness prevention, blood pressure regulation, fertility problems, menopausal symptom relief, digestive distress, smoking cessation, weight control & addiction control. Often acupuncture is used along with Chinese Herbal Medicine.  Both acupuncture and Chinese herbs have been used safely and effectively for thousands of years.

Our Acupuncturist is
Dr. Robin Braga, Lic Acup.

If you wish to speak with Dr. Braga, then please call the office, and you can schedule a Free Consultation with her.
Initial session, 60 minutes $75.00
Standard session, 45-55 minutes $60.00

Our Guarantee:  If, for whatever reason you are not completely satisfied with your massage treatment or acupuncture, then please let them know at the desk when you leave. If for some reason, you pay for the massage and leave, and later are not happy with the massage--no problem. Simply call me (George C. Assad, Program Director) the following day, and I will happily refund your money. If you are not happy, then there is no charge. The most important thing for us is your satisfaction; period. So, if, for whatever reason, you are not happy with your massage, please call me.

Chiropractic:

The purpose of a chiropractor is to maintain the integrity and balance of your spinal column; to insure that there is a proper alignment and balance for your neck and back.

Stress, accidents, overuse, sports injuries, even over-exertion, can cause your spine to fall out of its natural alignment. When this happens, your nervous system ceases to function properly, and this could lead to back and neck pain, headaches, and other kinds of problems. Moreover, many types of pain and disease can be linked to problems with your spinal cord and nervous system.

The two major, underlying principles are:
  • The structure and condition of the body influences how it functions and heals.
  • A properly balanced and aligned spine is essential in maintaining health and healing.
Put another way:
  • Your body's functions are all interrelated, and its ability to heal is contingent on these interrelationships and balance of your spinal column.
  • A healthy body comes from a healthy nervous system, especially a healthy spine.
Chiropractors believe in a "hands-on" approach to patient care by focusing on a patient's total wellness, or well-being, instead of specific diseases, or ailments. It is this intricate physiological and biochemical interrelationship among various parts of your body-including its spinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, and vascular systems-that chiropractors dedicate themselves to exploring and treating, with special attention to nutrition, exercise, and healthy emotional and environmental relationships. When one or more of these systems is impaired, your body ceases to function normally and your resistance to disease is compromised.

One of the main causes of pain and disease in the human body can be traced to improper alignment of the vertebrae in your spinal column. This is called a subluxation. Through carefully applied pressure, massage, and manual manipulation of the vertebrae and joints, pressure and irritation on the nerves is relieved and joint mobility is restored, allowing your body to return to its natural state of balance, called homeostasis. Put another way, when the bones in your spine are allowed to go back to their proper positions, the nerve energy can resume its normal flow and your body's natural healing processes can function properly.

We look forward to seeing you on your next visit, and any questions you may have will gladly be answered by our Program Director, George C. Assad.
